Welcome to Pugg Mahones Irish Pub.

Situated on Elgin street in the famous suburb of Carlton you’ll find Puggs a destination you’ll want to visit over and over again. Easy to find, just jump on either the 1 or 8 trams from anywhere on Swanston street in the city and get off on the corner of Elgin and Lygon, look up for the huge tricolor proudly on display atop of Puggs and there you have us!!

Pugg Mahones has a veritable wealth of space, spared of the tight confines of many Irish pubs, Carlton's Puggs mixes a traditional Irish pub with a contemporary bar feeling, and succeeds in creating a fun experience if you're after few quiet drinks, or up for a session'.

With a bar that wraps around much of the venue Pugg Mahones Carlton boasts a substantial outdoor area, with bay windows opening at street level that make it an ideal summer destination for a late afternoon bevvy and gaze at the passersby.

It's for this reason Puggs fits into the primarily Italian make up of the greater Lygon St, Carlton area. Inside there are glass cabinets with Irish agricultural implements and other assorted traditional' knick-knacks, plus more adorning the walls. The carpeted area makes for cozy drinking, with low seats perfect for small groups and a bar menu featuring the simple Irish bar favorites as well as daily chef specials, but done impressively well.

With a mix of musicians and djs throughout the week as well as mammoth selection of drink specials each night, and many local, international and boutique beers on tap, complimented with  a wine list that caters for all tastes, Pugg Mahones Carlton is a venue for all.

This month we see the return of Melbourne Uni and with that brings the return of Puggs famous Thursday Uni Nights, DJ Coops and Jimmy King keeping the place hoppin' with the music and Jimmy behind the bar looking after all your colleges, clubs and societies needs this semester.
Look out too from Monday the 9th August for the changes in nights for our food specials, Steak night moves from Tuesday to Monday, Parma night from Thursday to Wednesday and now on Tuesdays it's Puggs Pizza and Pot Night, Puggs homemade pizza and a pot of Carlton Draught, VB or Bulmers Cider for only $10 combined, or maybe just a pizza for $7, and pots are $3 all night from 9pm 'til closing!!
Also a highlight this month is our newest act, singer / songwriter Ryan Murphy on Monday nights from 9pm (www.myspace.com/ryanmurphymusic) A gig definately worth a look.
In sport it's getting near finals time in AFL, see your team on the big screen Friday, Saturday and Sundays.
August sees the return of the English Premier League, the other football code!!!
It's also time for the return of the A-League, The Kiwis come across the ditch for the Bledisloe and Tri Nations. And for us Irish it's the business end of the GAA season, with the hurling and gaelic football quarter-finals starting.
